Getting to know Deborah Osborn

Hi there, I'm Deborah! Hello, I am Deb! My name is Deborah Osborn, and thank you for reading my profile. It is difficult to convey my work in just a few paragraphs. I have been counseling since 1998 and am an LCSW licensed in California. I earned my Master's in Social Work from West Virginia University. Much of my career has focused on working with adolescents and young adults, but I have also worked with adults in the later stages of life, which I find very satisfying. Anxiety and stress, trauma, life stage transitions, and relationships have been my primary areas of focus. My approach I understand that change is not easy, and I know that no single approach works for everyone. With this in mind, I draw upon a number of modalities. My primary approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, often influenced by Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Reality Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy. I strongly believe that an eclectic approach allows us to tailor the work to each individual client. My focus I find that my approach and experience fit well with young adults facing challenges related to life transitions and social pressures. Older adults often struggle with stage-of-life changes, and I am comfortable working through these issues as well. My communication style I strongly believe the client is the authority. It is their “User's Manual” for their life that they are writing. I want to help by offering options, planting seeds, and empowering clients to gain the confidence and skills to care for themselves. My journey to mental healthcare In my 20s, I held various management and educational jobs. In my early 30s, after managing a remote lodge for seven years, I began volunteering at a domestic violence shelter. I loved the work and decided to pursue it as a career. I completed two master's degrees, worked for West Virginia University Counseling Center, and directed the Sexual Assault Prevention and Treatment program. Since then, I have worked in private practice.
