Getting to know Dena Michnowich
I have over 30 years of clinical experience helping clients heal from trauma, mental illness, personality disorders, as well as working through life transitions, relationship challenges, grief, and difficulties with self-esteem. My clients report that through our work together, they experience decreased symptoms, an increased sense of well-being, and a more expansive perception of the possibilities in their lives. I am LGBTQ affirming and welcome clients of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds.
I earned my Master's in Social Work from New York University. I am influenced by psychodynamic/psychoanalytic, existential, trauma recovery theories, and the latest research in neuroscience. I am also influenced by Eastern philosophy and am trained in DBT and mindfulness meditation, which I teach my clients to help build self-awareness and tools to cope with anxiety and distress.
My primary focus is the bond that forms between me and my clients. I strive to build safety and trust in our relationship. Therapy can and will help once you engage in the process and work toward healing.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I am a trauma-informed therapist and I work with both Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD and C-PTSD).

My visit with this therapist was very helpful. I needed to discuss a couple of issues and learned some great coping skills. She was very helpful and listened attentively and gave great suggestions. I felt better after our meeting. I made another appointment. It is hard to find a good therapist and I am so happy to have found her. Virtual meetings are very convenient.
