Getting to know Dena Sidmore-Seyer

Hi! I'm Dena (she/her). I have 15 years of experience and truly love my vocation! I enjoy empowering individuals to achieve their goals and live their best lives. I believe everyone has the ability to heal; sometimes we all need a little help. I am passionate about the power of therapy to aid people in living their best, most authentic lives. I earned my Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling from Drake University, which has equipped me with the skills to support clients facing a variety of challenges. I live on the tristate border and provide remote therapy for persons in Illinois and Iowa. An Iowa native, I spent about a decade living and working in SoCal and Phoenix before returning to the Midwest to be with my (now) husband and stepkids. Yes, I left sunny San Diego in December for the snowy Midwest! The things we’ll do for love! I have personally benefitted greatly from therapy. I am Bi/queer, have ADHD, and several physical disabilities, all diagnosed after college. Therapy helped me develop much-needed coping skills so I could be successful in grad school and beyond. It also helped me manage the intense stressors related to being a young professional during the Great Recession. I continue to utilize therapy as part of my self-care routine. If you are coping with symptoms of anxiety, depression, low self-worth, or concerns related to ADHD or chronic health conditions, I would love the opportunity to work with you. I want to help you achieve a present no longer overshadowed by past traumas, negative self-talk, or uncontrolled anxiety.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Dena has given me more helpful, tangible steps forward than most
Best therapist I have ever had, she has helped me grow so much and her approach is incredibly empathetic and I have never felt more safe sharing my trauma and feeling like I will learn from and grow from it then with her
Knowledgeable, attentive, connected, committed, warm, authentic, intelligent. Great supportive atmosphere and productive sessions. Loses at least 15 mins each session to telling detailed stories.
I enjoy her ability to relate to the situations I discuss with her, I feel like we get each other's sense of humor, that we have similar interests in art, & all that really helps me feel comfortable with her. I also find her open minded, intelligent, empowering, warm & authentic. She does challenge me to do better & be better.
If I could, I would add warm, authentic, and empowering to that list. So far, I have genuinely enjoyed speaking with Dena. She is very helpful in validation as well as just core knowledge about mental health. I am very much the type that if the evidence is shown to me and described in a way my brain can not argue, it is very helpful in shutting down some anxious thought spirals. It was very easy to warm up to Dena. I always felt safe in speaking and expressing the real real on what is going on in my head, not just surface level things. She's very encouraging! It's really, really hard to actually do the work in regards to healing trauma. Her constant reminder that it is hard and that it is not made up, really made a difference in getting me to continue to push through things. It's still hard but it feels much better to know she is on my team and will continue to encourage me to persevere.
