Getting to know Denisse Marie Suarez

You are the one everyone depends on. You keep the family running, maybe in two languages, and underneath it the anxiety does not switch off, or something from the past keeps showing up in the present. Denisse Suarez works with adult women carrying exactly that, in English or entirely in Spanish. She works with anxiety, trauma, stress, and the weight of holding a family together, including the particular pressure of immigrant and first-generation life, where you are living with two sets of expectations at once. Denisse also works with preteens from 11, teens, and their parents. When a teenager stops talking or starts avoiding school, she helps the family figure out whether it is anxiety, attitude, or something that got missed, and brings parents into the work. Sessions are practical and collaborative: CBT, DBT skills, ACT, and trauma-focused work. Terapia en español para mujeres, adolescentes y familias en toda Florida. Denisse is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern supervised by Andrea Piazza, LMHC. Your first visit is a full intake session by secure video, and you need to be in Florida at the time of your appointment.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You can speak to me in whichever language feels more like home, and switch between them if that is easier. You do not have to explain your culture or your family before we get to what matters. In the first session I will mostly listen: what is weighing on you, what you have already tried, and what you want to be different. We go at your pace, and nothing hard gets opened before you feel steady. If you are coming for your teenager, I will usually meet with you both, together and separately, so everyone has a chance to be heard.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

After the first session, we set a few clear goals together. Most people meet with me weekly at the start. I use CBT to work on the thought patterns that keep anxiety going, DBT skills for emotions that feel too big, and ACT when the goal is living alongside something hard rather than making it disappear. When trauma is part of the picture, we build steadiness first and process it gradually. For teens, parents are part of the plan. We check in together regularly so the skills carry over to home. Every few weeks we look at what is helping and adjust. You will usually leave a session with something concrete to try.
