Desire Rivera, LMHC

Psychotherapist
MA
Hello there, I am Desire. You might be wondering how therapy can help or how it might work for you. Therapy can be a vehicle to address any number of needs or areas of healing in one's life. I believe therapy looks like more than just talking about thoughts and emotions-though that is certainly part of it. It is about figuring out how to feel empowered, how to cope with life's worries and stressors, and how to overcome the hurts of the past. Therapy can be an effective answer in learning how to deal with any number of issues, including trauma, anxiety, work or relationship challenges, loss and depression, or just figuring out a better way to meet any goals you may have for yourself in life to live more happily and feel more fulfilled. I earned my Master's in Counseling from Westfield State University, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support you effectively. I view a healthy therapeutic relationship as one where you can be comfortable, heard, and seen to help create a safe space for exploration and growth. I see my role as a therapist as providing education and support that builds trust to allow us to figure out the path to get from where you are to where you would like to be.

What should a new client know about working with you?

First sessions often revolve around taking a relevant history of concerns in one's life as well as what brings you to therapy. From there sessions are often aimed at developing and working towards the goals and needs we identify as a priority, including taking time to examine what works for you, and what hasn't worked, as well as developing additional coping strategies to support taking those next steps toward our identified goals.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
