CA
My name is Diana Methfessel, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Walnut Creek, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from John F. Kennedy University. I work with individuals, adolescents, and couples, specializing in anxiety, stress, depression, and life-stage transitions. Over my thirty-six years as a clinician, I have found Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Therapy to be especially beneficial. For trauma-related concerns, I use Cognitive Processing Therapy, The Flash Technique, and psychodynamic methods. My approach My approach to therapy varies based on each client's needs. Regardless of the method used, I help you define your goals and create a self-care plan using the therapeutic tools and techniques I introduce. I most frequently use a mindfulness-based approach, which includes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, strength-based methods, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. These modalities promote self-discovery and enhance your understanding of your emotions and relationships. Practicing the tools learned in sessions will lead to better management of life's conflicts and decisions. My focus I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adults of all ages, couples, and high school adolescents facing life transitions and social pressures. I provide counseling in areas such as anxiety and stress; depression and grief; work challenges; parent-child conflict; life transitions; alcohol and substance recovery support for those struggling and their families; LGBTQ+ exploration; and family support. I am trained in trauma-related concerns and crisis work. I strive to help my clients navigate these challenges, build skills to feel better about themselves, and develop a more positive outlook on life. My communication style My communication style is calm, accommodating, and personable.
