Getting to know Dorothy Husen

Hi there, I'm Dorothy! My name is Dorothy Husen, and I am a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in California, MFT #85611. I earned my Master's in Counseling from California Baptist University. I specialize in helping adults who have suffered childhood trauma, abuse, and neglect-both physical and emotional. In sessions, I teach mindfulness breathing skills, self-regulation, and body resourcing techniques so clients can learn to lower their anxiety. I also use mind/body psychotherapy and teach Re-parenting skills. My approach I provide each client with unconditional acceptance of who they are today, and together we work toward healing. I use somatic mind/body therapies such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Attachment-Based Relationship Building, and Breathwork to help clients connect to their bodies and stay present during sessions. My focus My style and approach are especially helpful for adults who have tried talk therapy with limited success or who find it difficult to talk about their past. I work with adults suffering from Childhood Post Traumatic Stress Disorder who experience shame, dissociation, and isolation as ways to avoid painful memories and feelings. Many of my clients have experienced childhood sexual abuse that they struggle to discuss. My communication style I communicate in a welcoming, warm, nurturing, and nonjudgmental way. Having healed my own childhood trauma, I deeply relate to the difficulties and the ongoing process of healing childhood wounds. My journey to therapy My journey to becoming a therapist began later in life. At 48, I went back to school to pursue therapy. I was unaware I had PTSD until my first therapy session, where I discovered I could not speak about my past. Once diagnosed, I began my own healing journey, which continues today.
