Getting to know Edward Breedlove

I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in OCD and Couples Therapy—helping people break free from obsessive cycles and the relationship patterns that keep them stuck. If you’re dealing with intrusive thoughts, compulsions, or constant mental loops, you already know how exhausting it is. You may feel trapped in your own mind—or like your relationship is getting pulled into the chaos. That’s where I come in. I use evidence-based approaches to help you face OCD directly, reduce compulsions, and regain a sense of control. At the same time, I bring extensive experience in couples work—because OCD doesn’t just affect you, it impacts how you connect, communicate, and feel understood. Whether you’re coming in individually or as a couple, our work is focused and practical: less reactivity, more clarity, and real change you can feel in your daily life and relationships.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is active, focused, and practical. I don’t just listen and nod—I help you identify the patterns keeping you stuck and challenge them in real time. Early on, we’ll get clear on what’s actually driving your anxiety, OCD, or relationship distress. From there, our work is structured: building awareness, interrupting unhelpful cycles, and practicing new ways of responding—both in session and in your daily life. If you’re dealing with OCD, expect direct work around facing fears and reducing compulsions. If you’re coming in as a couple, expect honest conversations, clear feedback, and guidance toward repair—not just rehashing the same arguments. I’ll meet you with respect and clarity, but I won’t stay on the surface. Therapy works best when you’re willing to be honest, take ownership, and try something different—and I’ll guide you every step of the way.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work starts with a focused assessment in the first 1–2 sessions to understand what you’re dealing with, what’s maintaining it, and what you want to change. We’ll get specific about your goals so treatment stays clear and purposeful. From there, sessions are active and structured. We won’t just talk about problems—we’ll work on them in real time. That includes identifying patterns, practicing new responses, and applying tools you can use between sessions. For OCD, I use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and/or Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT). ERP helps you face fears and reduce compulsions, while I-CBT targets the reasoning process behind OCD—specifically how obsessional doubt is constructed and mistaken for reality—so you can step out of the loop before it takes over. For couples, I integrate Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help you break negative cycles, improve communication, and strengthen connection. My approach is direct, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based methods. You can expect clarity, honest feedback, and practical steps to help you make meaningful progress both in and outside of sessions. I am a Christian, and for clients who want it, I’m comfortable integrating faith into our work in a way that supports your values and goals. However, this is always client-led and never assumed.

More information on payments and coverage

I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not bill insurance directly. Payment is due at the time of each session, and I accept standard forms of payment including cash, credit, HSA, check, and debit cards. If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide a detailed receipt (superbill) that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan, so I recommend contacting your insurer to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits, reimbursement rates, and any deductible requirements. Many clients are able to receive partial reimbursement, depending on their plan. If cost is a concern, we can briefly discuss options during the consultation to determine what may be workable.
