Hi there, I'm Edward! Life is a mystery to be celebrated, not a problem to be solved. I work as a partner, providing insights and resources to help clients learn how to enjoy life more abundantly. My focus Every client is an "expert" in their own lives. Often, we create belief systems to help us survive trauma that no longer work effectively to bring us happiness. I help clients understand how they learned to function in the past, and discover new ways to live in the future that are more fulfilling and joyful. My approach I work in an eclectic mix of modalities that I have learned in my 36+ years of working with a wide variety of people and issues. Justice is important because without justice, there is no mental health. People need to feel valued, honored, respected. It starts with loving ourselves, something that some of us do not learn from our families. My communication style I try to be empathetic with the emotions people are dealing with, direct in expressing the emotions I'm feeling from the person I'm working with, gentle when appropriate, direct when appropriate. Each person has their own "style" of living. I work to be respectful of that style, while considering possible dysfunctions that may be outdated. My journey to mental healthcare I entered therapy when I was 19 after a humiliating incident perpetrated on me in my university dormitory. I had so separated my emotions from my daily life because of a physically abusive father, neglectful mother, and constant emotional abuse from my peers. I almost attempted suicide at 20, but did not attempt it, for which I am grateful. My goals for you The purpose of therapy is to remove blocks to truth; to help you abandon any patterns of belief that no longer serve you in a productive way; to implement self-forgiveness. Therapy can alleviate suffering and open the door to peace of mind. It can assist in separating illusion from reality and even reality from truth.
