Ellen Smith, LPC

Psychotherapist
37 W Fairmont Ave, Ste 320, Savannah, GA
I practice existential counseling, meaning that together and through discussion, we examine your life and figure out what's working, what's not working, and what needs to be tweaked. I believe that we, people, can have a quality life no matter what circumstances we are dealt. I'm in the business of finding silver linings. My approach I work in a person-centered approach, meaning that the client leads the direction of the session. My work is insight-based and supportive. My focus Based on my experience, I have found that my approach and style are a good fit for individuals of all ages. I work with adults and teens dealing with life stressors. My communication style I tend to have a warm and direct communication style. I'm from California, so I'm fairly laid back. My journey to mental healthcare I started out teaching drawing and painting at several universities in the US. I found that the most interesting part for me was the relationships I had with the students, and watching them change, so I went back to school to become a therapist. I still paint regularly, though, and am always interested in the creative process. My goals for you I collaborate with the client on figuring out what they want to change after having been in counseling. Often, it boils down to improving mood and function. Then I provide support as they follow their process (objectives) toward achieving these goals. Homework is mindfully living your life in order to report in session what needs to change. My first session with you After getting a brief nutshell understanding of the presenting problem from the client, I facilitate a diagnostic assessment, which helps me better understand the psycho-social aspects of their case. It helps me see the bigger picture. I also get a list of symptoms.
