Ellisse Sawyers, LPC

Psychotherapist
VA
Hi there, I'm Ellisse! I have been licensed as an LPC in Virginia since 2022 and have worked in mental health since 2017. I earned my bachelor's degree from Radford University. I previously worked as a school counselor with elementary and middle school students. In my practice, I primarily work with older kids, teens, and young adults. My expertise includes traumatic experiences, anxiety and depressive disorders, OCD, personality disorders, and family systems affected by personality disorders. My approach I maintain a person-centered approach, assuming my client is the expert on their own life. I provide space to process thoughts and feelings and draw from inner strengths to make positive changes. I also use strength-based and CBT interventions. As a strength-based counselor, I focus on your strengths and positive attributes that have helped you overcome challenges. CBT helps break down thought patterns related to experiences and change negative cycles, generating different behaviors and outcomes. I am trained in trauma-focused CBT, where we process specific traumatic experiences and reframe negative beliefs, working to rewrite your experience and reclaim your power. My focus I enjoy working with older children, teens, and young adults. My experience includes anxiety disorders, depression, OCD, behavioral disorders (ODD, ADHD), eating disorders in teens, personality disorders, and trauma. My communication style I create a comfortable environment where clients feel free to speak openly without judgment about any topic.
