Dr. Elowyn Samadhi, PhD, SEP

Psychotherapist
100 Arapahoe Ave, Boulder, CO
I am a licensed clinical psychologist working in private practice at Tethered Healing Center in Colorado (virtual, in-person), California (virtual), and virtually at Sage Integrative Health, a Bay Area holistic psychedelic clinic. I have been working in the psychedelic field for a decade. I most recently served as a lead psilocybin therapist on the UCSD phantom limb pain clinical trial from 2022-2024. I specialize in the assessment and treatment of PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) and am trained in relational depth work, psychedelic-assisted therapy, and numerous evidence-based PTSD interventions. I am on faculty for Sage Integrative Health’s Psychedelic Practitioner Training Program where I teach about trauma in the body and somatic approaches, ritual magic and ceremony, and integration. I supervise psychedelic-assisted therapists in training as well. I enjoy volunteering my time mentoring minority trainees, have led numerous diversity related efforts across several institutions, and give regular invited talks, presentations, and workshops. I prioritize working from a decolonized framework and after a decade of clinical work, I believe mind-body-spirit integration is the path to wholeness. I focus on offering healing that involves both deep excavation and confrontation of one’s psyche and somatic processing of traumatic wounds, ultimately leading to a remembering of a more authentic, complex self and reclaiming of one’s life in the interconnected web of nature. I am a proponent of both naturopathic and allopathic healing approaches. I am very committed to my own personal growth, healing, and development, as it allows me to continuously deepen how I work with people. I regularly take time for personal retreat and prioritize a balanced life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

With awareness and sensitivity to both personal and cultural forces, I strive first and foremost to create a safe, welcoming space for you to explore all aspects and parts of yourself. She aims to work from a decolonized lens, gently inviting awareness of how pathologizing, individualistic, and oppressive social structures cause suffering and impacts how one relates to one’s sense of self. What I offer is an approach to healing that ultimately results in remembering of a more authentic, complex self and what really matters to you outside of capitalistic subjugation. I am flexible to what you personally need, constructing therapy based on what works to relieve suffering, develop insight, and foster growth. The foundation of my approach is fostering mindful awareness, relational safety, and integrating somatic approaches and guided imagery. In a paced and gradual way, we will focus on uncovering wounds through depth work and mind-body based approaches for exploring your self (“Parts Work”) and help you build your physiological and emotional capacity (using Somatic Experiencing®) to safely process and renegotiate wounds in an embodied way. We will also use self-compassion approaches and may incorporate holistic practices like breathwork, going out into nature, and recommending consciousness-expanding books and music. I believe firmly in the spiral path rather than a linear one. I believe we come back around again and again to old wounds to learn to be with them with ever more awareness, compassion, acceptance, and choice.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During the first few sessions, we'll explore what brings you to therapy and continue determining if we are a good fit. If we are mutually feeling like our dynamic is working well, we'll identify specific treatment goals and review approaches we hope to weave into our work. I primarily use relational depth work, Somatic Experiencing, parts work, & mindfulness-based experiential processes. From there, the beginning of our work together will focus on establishing relational safety, getting a thorough history, developing a map of your inner parts, and learning some basic somatic tools to support regulation. As therapy progresses, we will uncover & process increasingly challenging material while in a safe, corrective relational dynamic.
