Emerald Lee, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, my experience includes working with trauma, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, work-life balance, racial trauma, identity, boundaries, and assertive communication. I’ve worked with individuals across various age groups, from children to older adults, both in outpatient, intensive outpatient (IOP), partial hospitalization (PHP), and inpatient hospital settings. As an Asian American, I strive to create a culturally competent environment where clients can feel seen, affirmed, and empowered. Whether you’re navigating emotional overwhelm, identity questions, or relational stress, I’m here to support you in reclaiming your voice and building a life aligned with your values. My approach is nonjudgmental, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and collaborative. My approach to therapy is eclectic, meaning I tailor sessions to meet your unique needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all model. I draw from a range of evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and trauma-informed care. I work well with adults who are navigating the impact of various stressors/trauma and are open to exploring how their past experiences may be showing up in the present. My clients don’t need to have it all figured out yet; they just need to be willing to show up, be curious, and engage in the process. I value kindness, openness, and a mutual, real connection. I bring warmth, respect, and a bit of humor when it fits, and see the therapeutic relationship itself as a key part of the healing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients often tell me they feel comfortable early on in our work together. I offer a space where they can be themselves, whether we’re laughing about something relatable or sitting with complex and heavy emotions. My approach blends connection with insight; I help clients understand themselves more clearly, learn why they respond the way they do, and offer psychoeducation when it supports their growth. While every client’s journey is different, many people find that with consistent work, they’re able to meet their therapy goals and feel a greater sense of clarity and emotional resilience. I've been drawn to the field of therapy from a young age. I began my work in mental health through advocacy with various organizations, which led me to roles in case management for IOP/PHP programs. That experience deepened my interest in both the administrative and clinical sides of client care. Over the past 5–6 years, I’ve worked as a therapist, and I truly love what I do. It’s an honor to be part of people’s lives, whether we’re celebrating their growth or navigating through difficult moments. I’m grateful for the opportunity to support others on their path toward healing and self-discovery.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As a therapist, I believe empowering the client by providing a safe, warm, collaborative, and culturally aware environment is essential for the healing process. I am passionate about utilizing each session to provide support and assist clients as they learn more about themselves, while also including activities, psychoeducation, worksheets, and more to empower the client. It’s essential to find a balance between identifying ways to challenge yourself, while also going at your own pace, so I hope therapy can help guide that process! Our first session is all about getting to know one another! We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, your goals, and any questions or concerns you might have. I’ll ask some background questions to better understand your story, and together we’ll start to build a foundation of trust and safety. You don’t have to prepare anything in advance, just come as you are. My goal is to make you feel heard, supported, and comfortable as we begin this work together.
