Getting to know Emily Clark

***PLEASE NOTE: WITHIN 48 HOURS OF REQUESTING AN APPOINTMENT, YOU WILL BE CONTACTED BY OUR ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM TO COMPLETE THE REQUIRED CONSENT FORMS AND PAY THE DEPOSIT TO RESERVE YOUR APPOINTMENT TIME. IF WE ARE UNABLE TO REACH YOU, YOUR APPOINTMENT WILL BE CANCELLED. REMINDER: WE ARE NOT IN-NETWORK WITH ANY INSURANCE PROVIDERS AND WE DO NOT ACCEPT MEDICAID.*** I believe that therapy can be beneficial and transformational for anyone. We seek connections with others, we experience changes in our lives, and we deal with unusual circumstances that can overwhelm us. Therapy helps us identify patterns and find strategies to change them or create new ways of being and relating to others to help us achieve our goals. I see my role as a therapist as collaborative and nonjudgmental. I strive to maintain a warm, culturally sensitive environment that still challenges you to explore and make necessary changes that we identify together. Emily Clark, LCSW-S is a licensed clinical social worker (#59823). She has trained and worked in a variety of settings including residential facilities, higher education, inpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and private practice. She graduated with a master’s degree in social work from the University of Texas at Arlington. She also has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of North Texas, and a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Baylor University. Emily’s specialties include treatment of active duty and veteran populations and their families, individuals and couples counseling in PTSD and trauma, relationship issues, caregiver stress, women’s issues, and sexual health. Ms. Clark is also a member of the South Texas Research Organizational Network Guiding Studies on Trauma and Resilience (STRONG STAR)

What should a new client know about working with you?

I enjoy creating a warm and welcoming environment for all my clients. This means I listen in a non-judgmental manner and work collaboratively with couples and individuals from all backgrounds to make sure that your thoughts and feelings are respected and treated using evidence-based approaches to help you achieve your goals. I practice mainly from a cognitive, humanistic, and interpersonal perspective and integrate evidence-based practices to meet the individual needs and goals of each client. This means that I believe how we think about our emotions or situations determines the choices we make. I believe that the goal of the therapeutic relationship with my clients is to help you achieve lasting change. We will work together to create a plan based on your unique and specific needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I am collaborative with my clients. The first step is usually gathering information, where I learn about your history and goals for what you want to accomplish. Then, we work together, to set goals and a plan on how to achieve your goals. I am trained in several types of therapy and we will find which style works best for you including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, or other styles, depending on your needs.

More information on payments and coverage

A deposit is required to reserve your initial appointment with one of our therapists. The deposit is equal to the cost of your first session and will be applied to that session automatically once the session has been completed. However, as per our general financial policy, if you cancel more than 24 hours in advance, this deposit can be refunded back to you upon request or applied to your first session if you reschedule. If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment or no show, this deposit will not be refunded or applied to future sessions. Our clinicians’ time is important to us and to others who are hoping to utilize the open slots on their schedules, so we do ask that you notify us as soon as you know you won’t be able to make it so we can make that slot open to others who are in need of therapeutic assistance. Payment in full is expected at the time of service. Our fee structure is based on an hourly rate. If sessions lasting longer than an hour are scheduled or occur, the fee will be prorated at the same hourly rate. Will I Be Reimbursed for Out-Of-Network Therapy? In most cases, yes. Stanford Couples Counseling is happy to offer a superbill upon request which you may be able to file with your insurance provider for out-of-network reimbursement. This means you will need to pay your therapist for the entire session when you receive their services, but your insurance company may be able to send you a check to reimburse a portion of the cost once you file an out-of-network reimbursement claim. **Please contact your insurance provider to check whether you qualify for out-of-network reimbursement benefits**
