Psychotherapist
GA
Hi there, I'm Emily! Therapy means different things to different people. Regardless of our differences, starting therapy can seem scary and overwhelming. So we will start where you are and work together to determine what therapy looks like for you. I specialize in working with people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and/or life circumstances. My goal is to be a safe, culturally competent source of support, which means there will be times that you will need to lead me, to help both of us grow in our understanding of who you are and what you need. My approach I believe that the first job in therapy is to figure out what type of therapy works best for you because different treatments work for different people. I tend to rely on cognitive-behavioral approaches because I believe it is important to help you purposely define your narrative, rather than allowing trauma, pain, and anxiety to distort the way you talk to and view yourself. I believe it is important to identify, develop, and practice effective coping skills, which often includes a great deal of exploration and creativity. In the end, I believe it is my job to help you develop the necessary skills to be your own best friend and therapist. My focus In short, I am there to work for you. It is my job to help identify your needs and adapt my practice to help you meet those needs. Eventually, I believe you will learn the skills to meet your own needs. My communication style I strive to create an environment that fosters creativity, acceptance, and honesty. I am there to support you and provide empathetic feedback (when appropriate). I believe that art and music are particularly powerful ways to communicate and tend to incorporate creative activities to explore your internal thoughts and beliefs, while developing new ways to express yourself.
