Getting to know Emily Sledge

Emily Sledge specializes in anxiety, OCD, trauma (including PTSD and BPD), and the LGBTQ population. She holds a Master’s in Social Work from Colorado State University. Her approach is compassionate and empowering, giving clients the skills they need to manage difficult symptoms and create vital, fulfilling lives.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I was drawn to becoming a therapist because of the powerful role therapy has played in my own life. I remain passionate about the work because of the growth and healing I have the honor of co-creating with clients. My approach is warm and empowering, with a large focus on helping you create safety in your body, get to know and love all parts of yourself, relate to your thoughts and emotions in a healthy way, and take committed action toward whatever is most important to you. I use evidence-based modalities including ACT, ERP, DBT, and Written Exposure Therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My top priority is for your body and brain to feel safe, accepted, and free to be exactly yourself in my presence. In the intake process, I will ask questions about your life and try to get a full picture of your challenges, strengths, and goals. I will also complete a few assessments based on your presenting issues. It is important to get a baseline for your symptoms and goals so that we can regularly track your progress through re-evaluations and make sure this relationship is serving you well. Therapy with me is an active healing process of learning about yourself and gaining the tools to live a full, meaningful life. Often, I will teach something in session, we will practice together, and I will then send you out to practice throughout your week. The following week will start with how that went and working through any barriers to success.
