Emmanuella Owobu, LCPC

Psychotherapist
MD
Hi there, I'm Emmanuella! I grew up in a culture that wasn’t accommodating to mental health challenges. People suffered and died in secret, especially with mental health struggles. Children are exposed at very young ages to alcohol, tobacco, illicit drugs, and cigarettes. Even as a child, I imagined there were better ways. This sparked my interest in mental health. With extensive experience in multicultural sensitive therapeutic skills and a Master’s in Addiction Counseling from Coppin State University, I am committed to supporting individuals, couples, families, and groups in developing coping skills to better handle challenging life, behavioral, and mental health issues. My approach When asked about my therapeutic approach, I describe it as eclectic. I draw on various techniques and theories to tailor my approach to each individual’s needs. I believe no single therapy model works for everyone, so I integrate methods from different schools, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, humanistic approaches, and more, to create a customized treatment plan. The goal is to use the most effective tools to address the unique concerns of the person seeking help, while being flexible and adaptive in the process. My focus As a therapist, my focus is providing a safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental space for individuals to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. My main goals are supporting emotional well-being: helping clients manage and understand emotions like anxiety, depression, stress, or relationship struggles by fostering healthy coping strategies and emotional resilience; and promoting self-awareness: guiding clients to gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their behaviors, and life patterns, leading to positive personal growth and healing.
