Ena Millward, LCSW

Ena Millward, LCSW

Psychotherapist
405 N Euclid Ave, Oak Park, IL
My advanced degrees and certifications are in anthropology, counseling, and social work. I've lived and worked in a small jungle village in Costa Rica, in Key West and Jacksonville, as well as in Chicago. These experiences foster in me an understading about what all human beings have in common, and what we all need. I like to draw from a wide and varied array of approaches to healing and therapy, including EMDR and somatic therapy. I have experience supervising over 80 clinicians in Chicago, and I've spoken widely at conferences and in the context of social work programs about trauma informed practice with new arrival families in Chicago and international students.

Getting to know Ena Millward

My advanced degrees and certifications are in anthropology, counseling, and social work. I've lived and worked in a small jungle village in Costa Rica, in Key West and Jacksonville, as well as in Chicago. These experiences foster in me an understading about what all human beings have in common, and what we all need. I like to draw from a wide and varied array of approaches to healing and therapy, including EMDR and somatic therapy. I have experience supervising over 80 clinicians in Chicago, and I've spoken widely at conferences and in the context of social work programs about trauma informed practice with new arrival families in Chicago and international students.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have a wide range of experiences. I've worked within the context of government and educational systems, so I have a lot of experience with parents of children with Individualized Education Plans. This includes group work and psychoeducation. More recently my experience has focused on adults who have experienced major trauma. I'm a student of EMDR and Somatic Experiencing, and somatic therapy in general. If you're facing a transition, coping with trauma, loss, anxiety, overwhelming sadness, I feel like I might be a good match. I absolutely understand that identity can matter a great deal with respect to finding the right fit for therapy, and I also know that difference can create powerful opportunities for all of us.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session is typically spent discussing what brought you here. We will discuss who you are. I'll learn about how you communicate, and your communication preferences with respect to me. I will learn what you want to get out of our time together. I will also want to know what you know about therapy, what your experiences have been, and what your expectations are. We will likely talk about what is going right, your areas of interest, and those of challenge.
