Erica Bellar, LPC

Psychotherapist
CO
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor living and working in Castle Rock, CO. I enjoy working with diverse clients and strive to provide a judgment-free environment to explore the individual client experience and navigate stressful stages of life. I have been a practicing therapist for 20 years, in private practice for 11 years. I have chosen private practice because I believe that it allows me to provide an individual approach with each client that I work with, and work with clients for as long as that is useful to them. I specialize in medical complexity, meaning that many of the clients that I work with experience significant medical symptoms that also impact mood and relationships. I also work with stress, relationship and parenting issues, career changes/challenges, grief and loss and trauma. I am in network with all major insurances: Optum/United, Anthem/BCBS, Aetna, Kaiser, Cigna, Carelon and Beacon Health Options ,as well as Colorado Medicaid and Medicare.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor living and working in Castle Rock, CO. What should a new client know about working with you?

I have a client-centered approach to therapy which means that I do not engage in a therapeutic relationship with any agenda, I believe that each person is the expert on their own experience and my job is to help clarify and support that. I utilize CBT which means that I help connect the dots between thoughts, feelings and behaviors; however I also believe that understanding attachment dynamics is very important to healing. I approach trauma from an Internal Family Systems and Existential approach which means that I never ask clients to relive their trauma, and clients control the manner and rate of trauma processing. I also believe that there is meaning and growth to be found in navigating painful experiences, and finding this meaning helps to reduce the intensity of grief and pain.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I notice that the sessions that I provide are typically warm and supportive. I have observed that, in general, the first two or three sessions with a new client are mostly focused on information gathering (there's usually quite a lot of information to share) and relationship building. Typically by the third session the session becomes more linear and focused, but that also really depends on the needs of the client. I have a somewhat informal and humor based approach, I think that being able to see the absurd in any situation helps with gaining perspective and confidence, which can be very empowering. My goal is never to tell a client what to do or what they need, but to help a client identify that for themselves, and then practice communicating that to the other people in their lives.

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Initial session: $150 for 55 minutes
Ongoing session: $150 for 55 minutes
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork

I am in network with all major insurers as well as smaller insurance companies and EAPs. I submit claims directly to insurance, and only charge out of pocket for deductibles and co-pays. I never charge clients without first discussing insurance benefits, typically after the first claim has been processed, there are never any surprises. I also do not practice balance billing (which is not legal in Colorado) meaning that I only charge the amount that is negotiated with your insurance company. I also do have a very affordable cash rate ($75) for individuals who are uninsured or prefer to not use insurance.
