Dr. Florence Johnson, PsyD

Psychotherapist
MA
My name is Florrie Johnson, and I am a licensed clinical psychologist (PsyD) trained at William James College, working in Massachusetts to help clients statewide via telehealth. My professional experience and training include work with children, families, and adults, inpatient care for major mental illness, as well as experience as a school psychologist in the special education field. My work is influenced by the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy and systems and structural family therapy. My approach centers on practical problem solving, while my understanding of clients is shaped by an analytical perspective. People are complex! My approach My approach to therapy varies with the client. I like to work with clients in the way that is most helpful to them. Sometimes this means building trust over time, and other times it involves a more direct problem-solving approach. Most important to me is understanding the client from their own perspective. I often use the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy to help clients see how their beliefs influence their feelings and actions. I also find it helpful to explore the client’s role in their early family to identify possible sources of current functioning. My focus My work often centers around women’s issues, including struggles with self-esteem, assertiveness, depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, and workplace dynamics. I have supported families navigating divorce, helping children process their feelings and understand life changes. I have worked with couples aiming to improve parenting and child management skills. Additionally, I have supported anxious children and female adolescents who needed a safe space to discuss their feelings and experiences. My background as a school psychologist equips me to assist parents with special education concerns or learning disabilities.
