Hi there, I'm Gayle! My name is Gayle Nissen, and I am an LCSW licensed in Virginia since 2002. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. I have worked as a therapist for my local county for 32 years, gaining extensive experience with a variety of mental health and addiction issues to support people’s growth and change. I am trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which helps manage intense emotional responses and brings them to a level that allows better functioning. I incorporate mindfulness and communication skills and have a background in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I also use grounding techniques and am trained in trauma and chronic pain issues. In summary, my approach includes DBT, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Motivational Interviewing, Strength-Based, Behavior Modification, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Psychoanalytic, and CBT. I work with both short-term and long-term change in sessions. My focus Having worked in the county system, I am comfortable treating anyone with mental health and/or addiction concerns. Most clients seek change, and with the understanding that therapy requires hard work, I invite you to join me in brainstorming issues and setting achievable goals. My communication style I want you to feel comfortable and safe with me. I am skilled at building rapport and trust in the therapeutic environment. Together, we will work on objectives and goals. I am a hands-on therapist who focuses on problem-solving, change, and reframing issues to build your strengths.
