Getting to know Gene Gibbs

Hi there, I'm Gene! Hello. I am Gene Gibbs, a licensed professional counselor with a Master’s in Counseling from the University of North Texas at Dallas and a Bachelor’s from Northern Caribbean University. I enjoy helping people deal with anger, anxiety, depression, grief, addiction, and spirituality. I help people process their thoughts and emotions so they can make decisions that move them toward the emotional and mental place they seek. My approach I talk with people and listen to them. I use modalities such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Adlerian Psychology, Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Meditation and Breathing techniques. I help clients focus on what they want to move toward a desired outcome and identify steps to actualize it. My focus I work with individuals and couples. I am a gay ally and encourage everyone to speak their truth. My communication style I tend to be direct. I use questions and make suggestions when needed. I am responsive, giving feedback as clients share. I seek to be supportive, sensitive, and sensible. My journey to mental healthcare People need people. No matter how successful or lonely you feel, you need someone. I want to be that someone. I want to hear your story that no one else listens to. I want to understand your perspective and learn what you have done to explain why you are where you are. Too many never get listened to, heard, or feel anyone is in their corner. I want to be the one in your corner :-) My goals for you I ask clients to identify desired outcomes. We then craft a plan with objectives and interventions to achieve them. My first session with you I ask about the origin of your issue and what you expect to achieve from sessions.
