Getting to know Geneva Henderson

The decision to connect with a mental health professional takes courage and self-awareness. The pressures of life can be overwhelming and too much to handle on our own. Often, with our busy daily lives, we don't take the time to check in with ourselves physically, mentally, or emotionally. Being more mindful and aware of how our mind and body interact and influence each other can help reduce anxiety and depression symptoms, improve mood, and give us a better understanding of not only ourselves but also the ability to appreciate the world around us through a more positive lens. I hold a Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from South Carolina State University. My approach is cognitive-based while also incorporating mindfulness techniques. During the therapeutic process, I aim to empower my clients to regulate their emotions and become skillful in handling those things within their control. I specialize in complex trauma, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, exploring life transitions, and negative thought processes. I strive to create a safe space where clients feel comfortable discussing difficult topics. I want clients to feel free to share their thoughts and feelings without the fear of judgment.

What should a new client know about working with you?

During the first session, I aim to determine if I am the right therapist to help you resolve the issue you are bringing to counseling. While I am passionate about helping each client referred to me, I understand I may not be the best fit for everyone. I will actively listen as you share details on the presenting concerns. I will also ask questions for clarification and to gain understanding. The first session also provides an opportunity for therapeutic rapport to be built. Therapeutic rapport is a trusting relationship that allows clients to feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
