I have expertise in marriage counseling and individual therapy, in which I specialize. Couples counseling is considered short-term, generally between 10 and 25 sessions. I focus on advancing communication skills, intimacy, trust, parenting skills, values clarification, resolving conflict, and building a marital vision. I also specialize in family-of-origin issues, including relationship issues, generational problems, rejection complex, identity/self-esteem concerns, and physical and sexual abuse. I provide chemical dependency assessment, diagnosis, intervention, treatment, and referral in my office and workplace settings. Workplace issues such as managing stress, employee-to-employee conflict, critical incidents, performance, and conduct concerns are also addressed. Theoretical Orientation & Counseling Techniques: Initial sessions involve a thorough assessment, working diagnosis, and either a treatment plan or appropriate referral for continued services. History taking, problem identification, and assessment of one’s needs are considered for diagnostic purposes. Theoretical underpinnings include communication theory, family systems, the hierarchy of needs, and gestalt theories. Counseling approaches include cognitive-behavioral, insight-experiential, problem-solving, solution-focused, behavioral contracts, communication skills, and mediation.
