Getting to know Gillermina Alvarado
My name is Gillermina Alvarado, and I go by Mina. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Riverside, CA, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I hold a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Phoenix. I work with adults, children, and adolescents experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, behavioral challenges, trauma, and grief and loss.
My approach
The therapeutic approaches I utilize include, but are not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, DBT, and TF-CBT.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for different age groups facing various challenges in their lives. These often include anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse, behavioral problems, and daily life stressors.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable speaking openly and to feel safe. I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in education. Working with children in a classroom setting did not allow me to help them on a deeper level. This inspired me to become a therapist so I could support others in resolving trauma and other life stressors.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is collaborative. Together, we define what you want to accomplish during our time together. This often begins with building trust and becoming comfortable with what therapy means. Over time, we will set goals and track your progress.
My first session with you
In our first session, we will spend most of the time discussing how you've been feeling recently. I will ask questions to better understand why you may be feeling this way. The first session is about building an initial connection and helping me determine the best path forward.
