Getting to know Guy Croteau

I have over 20 years of experience in psychotherapy. After earning my master's degree in Clinical Social Work from Boston University in 2002, and my bachelor's degree from the University of Hartford, I worked in community mental health for several years before starting my own practice in 2014. I have specialized training in Trauma, EMDR, and Group Therapy. I also offer Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). I work with adults of all ages-young and seasoned-as well as individuals who are gay, straight, and non-binary. While I am an out-of-network provider, I submit claims on my clients' behalf so you can be reimbursed directly from your insurance company depending on your benefits. I am also open to discussing my private fees.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is relaxed, non-judgmental and curious. I am not a “blank slate” therapist and believe in the therapeutic use of “self” whole holding boundaries that protect both you and me. When we work together, we will begin by getting to know more about you and your life, both in the present and in the past. What were your experiences that brought you to my office? Through the forming of the therapeutic relationship, we will explore your thoughts and feelings – both the ones that serve you well and those that no longer serve your life. We delve into those areas in your life that cause you pain and prevent you from leaving joyfully. We can explore the core beliefs that have both led you to where you are and how they have gotten in the way.

I am forever grateful for the exceptional psychotherapist Guy Croteau who used EMDR to help me overcome PTSD. He's compassionate approach, expertise, and skillful use of EMDR transformed my life. Highly recommended!
Guy is approachable, genuine, kind and compassionate. He provides thoughtful feedback and insights, poses thought-provoking questions and appropriately shares his personal and professional experiences. Therapy with Guy is a back-and-forth conversation, rather than a one-sided "analysis". He also has extensive experience with LGBTQ+ issues. In my opinion, I think Guy's approach to treatment would suit both new and seasoned therapy patients.
I always have a good session with Guy. He's always so cool and relaxed, even when I get quite emotional. Guy's gentle, kind, and understanding demeanor helps me to remain calm.
My last appointment was so good, I say that as Guy helps me to navigate the places I have been stuck in (bc of fear, trauma, etc.) and supports me as I “do the work”. I left feeling as if a great weight shifted and my awareness of what is possible had expanded. I was just telling a friend this week that Guy has made an incredible impact on my journey. Highly recommend working with him.
