Hi there, I'm Harriet!
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 30 years of counseling experience. I am here to sincerely assist in providing new coping skills, fresh perspectives, and interactional interventions that directly link your problems to solutions.
My approach
I am proud to share that I was trained under experts specializing in family system theory and technique. This approach offers an interactional dynamic, utilizing patterns of thought and emotions as a means to redirect and develop more effective ways of coping.
My focus
I work with all age groups. My areas of expertise include adults dealing with stress, anxiety, family issues, and parenting challenges. I provide interactional and communication skills and reframe issues to maximize positive aspects. I also continue to address psychosocial stressors, including working with seniors.
My communication style
I am a strong interviewer who asks thought-provoking questions, using them both to gather information and as therapeutic intervention. I establish therapeutic rapport by validating clients? perspectives, free of any negative communication. I consistently refer to their counseling goals throughout sessions.
My journey to mental healthcare
I took a sociology class my freshman year of college. My professor invited me to work part-time assisting with her PhD dissertation and encouraged me to volunteer at a social work agency, which I did at Bayside Runaway Center in Tampa, FL. I have worked in this career ever since and earned my Master of Social Work degree from Barry University in 1990.
My goals for you
I strive to understand each client?s perspective regarding their main reason for seeking counseling. I work with them in an interview style, exploring their past and current solutions and the people involved in the problem-saturated system. Together, we establish clear goals and time frames, including interventions aimed at changing behaviors and fostering new perspectives.
