What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a human before anything else. I too have been in the spot of looking for a therapist in the midst of holding a heavy heart. I have a background in various trainings and expertise, but I find that the best teacher has been the human experience. I spend a good amount of time getting to know my clients, truly understanding their story. I believe that often, whatever we struggle with in the present, has breadcrumbs to somewhere in the past. I offer various approaches, including EMDR to invite healing to any old wounds that may be impacting the present moment. Once we can understand the root of the pain, we can work with the present moment distress that comes up and any future worry. With a background in yoga, I also bring in meditation, mindfulness, and movement with my clients who are interested. I love the opportunity to bring in something creative with my clients such as expressive art or journaling, so please let me know if this peaks your interest.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first few sessions are focused on me getting to know you. We will work together to identify therapeutic goals and a realistic plan to get there. I also want to make sure that my clients have tools in their backpack before diving deep into emotional pain. If this is needed, we will spend some time on building coping skills and healthy resources. Once we are confident we have some good tools, we will confront any pain that needs confronting in a warm and therapeutic environment. Again, I always meet my clients where they are at, so although I may suggest a structure, if a client of mine has an immediate need or issue to talk through, we will prioritize what you need.
