Getting to know Henry Cames

I am a Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University and significant experience helping people with issues like Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma at community agencies and hospitals in New York City. I provide a safe space for you to work through the challenges you're facing and help you take steps forward toward achieving your goals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy which is a approach that has been shown to be effective at helping resolve a wide variety of issues. In CBT we will take a look at the way our thoughts influence our mood, and how to change unhelpful thoughts to feel better. My approach is person centered and collaborative. I believe you're the best expert in your life, and so together we will develop goals and plans to help you reach goals that you feel will best improve your quality of life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session will be an conversation where I will be getting to know you, your history, and what concerns have brought you to therapy. Over the course of therapy, we will develop a treatment plan. The focus of the treatment plan is to help you develop coping skills, adaptive thinking strategies, and greater insight into the root causes of the problems you face. Each session we'll set an agenda which includes analyzing topics you'd like to discuss, as well as discussion of concepts and skills that are relevant in dealing with the issues you're facing.
