Getting to know Henry Rubin

Real progress starts with a relationship where you feel understood. I believe therapy works best when it is collaborative, honest, and focused on the changes you want to make. Our work together is centered on you: your experiences, your challenges, and what you want to be different. I take the time to understand how you think, what you feel, and the patterns that keep repeating, so we can build an approach that actually fits you. Everyone has the capacity to change. But when you are dealing with stress, anxiety, low mood, or patterns that have been there for years, it can be hard to see a way forward on your own. My goal is to help you understand why things keep happening, develop practical tools to handle them, and move toward a steadier, more confident life. I am direct, and I will tell you honestly what I see, because that is what helps people move forward. My approach is person-centered and grounded in evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, work stress and burnout, life transitions, and relationship struggles. I hold a master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from SUNY Plattsburgh. I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you feel comfortable exploring what is hard, building skills, and working toward lasting change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

***DISCLAIMER*** We do not accept Medicaid Insurances. Clients are required to upload photos of their insurance card, front and back, when booking a session through Zocdoc. It is necessary to complete the full intake paperwork prior to their first scheduled session as well. *************************************************************

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Starting therapy is an important step toward clarity, support, and real change. My approach is structured, collaborative, and focused on helping you make steady progress you can see. We begin with an intake session, where we talk about what brought you to therapy, what is going on now, and what you would like to work toward. This is followed by an in-depth assessment, where we explore your background, relationships, and patterns to understand what is really driving how you feel. From there, we create a personalized plan based on your goals. This may include managing anxiety or depression, quieting self-doubt, handling work stress, or breaking patterns in relationships. In ongoing sessions, we use evidence-based techniques such as CBT and ACT to help you understand your thoughts, manage emotions, and build practical tools you can use in everyday life. We check progress along the way and adjust the plan if something is not working. My goal is to help you build confidence, feel steadier day to day, and handle challenges with greater clarity and control.
