Getting to know Hollis Theon Rogers

Hi there, I'm Hollis Theon! I am Hollis "Theon" Rogers, a Licensed Professional Counselor and a certified substance abuse counselor with many years of experience. I earned my Master?s in Psychology from Grand Canyon University. I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy in my approach. My focus is on Black/African American and Hispanic cultures and the specific issues that arise within these communities. I also address military-related issues, including trauma, and help military personnel obtain the benefits they deserve. My approach I mainly use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy. Additionally, I offer Christian Counseling for clients who prefer to incorporate Christian principles in addressing their concerns. My focus I typically work with military members, veterans, and people of color. I have experience addressing domestic violence issues and am very comfortable treating trauma of all kinds, as well as relationship and substance abuse issues. My communication style I am upfront and will challenge clients in an empathetic manner. I connect naturally with clients and may speak truths that feel uncomfortable; we will process that discomfort together. I always respect your decisions, even if I believe they may not be the best for you. My journey to mental healthcare In hindsight, I was called into this field. A mentor once told me I should be a counselor because I would be good at it. I started as a substance abuse counselor in the Navy in 1999, and my skills, approach, and education have led me to become a therapist who addresses the many challenges people face in this thing we call life. I have heard the cries of those abused, abandoned by family, and hurt by life?s circumstances, and I believe we all need a therapist. My goals for you My approach to goal setting is collaborative, with clients setting their own goals. I may offer feedback; however, the decision will always be yours.
