A native Californian and first-generation student, Irene earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from California Lutheran University (Thousand Oaks) and her Master's in Social Work from California State University, Long Beach (Distance Education Program in Ventura County). Her professional social work experience includes working directly with individuals and families from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds as a Medical Social Worker and Clinical Social Worker. With over 20 years of experience, she has worked in public health with pregnant and parenting adolescents, children with physical disabilities, and individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Irene has also provided care in renal dialysis, hospital, home health, hospice, and pediatric clinic settings, as well as at a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). Her approach to care is collaborative, person-centered, strength-based, and holistic, recognizing that life's challenges impact each individual differently. Irene believes that a trusting relationship between the individual and the mental health therapist is the essential first step in providing assistance and guidance through the healing journey-whether one is facing a physical health challenge, life transition, or mental health concern. When not working, Irene enjoys practicing yoga, spending time outdoors in nature and exploring the city, listening to music, reading, traveling, and being with her family and friends.
