Psychotherapist
NY
I am a Manhattan psychotherapist specializing in helping clients struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and LGBTQ+ concerns. I use an eclectic style of therapy that focuses on listening, developing concrete goals, exploring your past, and building motivation and self-confidence. Many of my clients are young professionals and older adults who find it difficult to change. You don't have to struggle alone. I strive to provide care that creates an environment where you feel comfortable and supported. I am a private practice psychotherapist located in New York City with extensive experience working as a behavioral specialist. I hold a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from City University of New York, Brooklyn College. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I've worked with a broad population of clients, including those struggling with psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, depression, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, and other mood disorders. I also have experience working with clients who are athletes and struggle with athletic performance and anxiety. As a behavioral specialist, I have had the opportunity to work with clients beyond psychotherapy, providing executive consultation on public image, personal branding, strategic thinking, acquisition of interpersonal skills, and nonverbal communication and awareness. I am also a martial arts instructor with over 35 years of experience teaching and training. As an instructor, I have developed and taught specialized coursework for children and adults. I combine fundamental martial arts training techniques with modern strength and conditioning strategies and behavioral training concepts such as role-playing, adrenaline-inducing scenarios, environmental awareness, exploring and debriefing traumatic events and learning to overcome their impact, tempering and teaching resilience while under stress.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As part of my practice at Manhattan preferred psychotherapy I work with individuals and couples struggling with Trauma, Anxiety, Depression and as well difficulties associated with emotional dysregulation and difficulties within their interpersonal relationships such as fear of intimacy, difficulties developing friendships, as well as low self esteem. I primarily work with adults and specialize in utilizing a combination of Psycho-dynamic therapeutic strategies and mindfulness techniques. Psycho dynamic therapy places an emphasis on exploring our early experiences, identifying negative coping strategies and defense mechanisms, looking at dysfunctional patterns of behaviors and relationships that continue to manifest themselves. We will also work to understand what internally drives us to accept these relationships and patterns of behaviors. As your therapist, we will collaborate and work to develop a sense of understanding of our problems and utilize mindfulness techniques to reinforce the importance of awareness, the need to live in the present and focus on being able to visualize a sense of control and mastery over our experience and eventually leading us towards realizing our goals. Therapy requires a sense of commitment and understanding that change takes time and as long as you are committed you will be giving yourself the opportunity to also develop skills that will be beneficial across a clients personal experiences. I will work to dedicate our time together to meet your needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The exploration process as it is experienced in psychotherapy can be intense for some and as your therapist we will work to explore each important event and experience one step at a time. I will work to help establish each client's personal narrative by helping them document each step and experience into a personal journal of experiences that can be helpful to them once our therapeutic relationship has moved on.
