Hi there, I'm J. Andrew! My name is Andy Martin. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Valdosta State University. I enjoy helping people locate their own sources of strength and power to live their best life. I have been a therapist for over 24 years, specializing in addiction work, although I see a wide variety of people facing challenges like depression, anxiety, and stress management. My approach I use a version of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that focuses on a client’s thoughts, feelings, and actions. By paying closer attention to these internal experiences, we can gain more control over how people, places, and situations affect our daily lives. I want my clients to feel equipped with the tools to cope effectively with their world. My focus Over the last 24 years, I have worked with a very wide variety of clients. My practice has always been based in small towns and rural areas—places where there aren’t many therapists to choose from. This has allowed me to “wear a lot of hats” and become comfortable working with many types of people. While addiction work is my specialty, I also support clients dealing with depression, anxiety, and many other life challenges. My communication style I’ve found that most clients want someone “down to earth,” and that’s how I strive to be. I avoid a lot of “clinical talk” and instead have conversations that foster collaboration between myself and my clients. I trust my clients to know themselves better than I do, and I aim to help them find solutions that fit their unique lifestyles. My journey to mental healthcare My path to becoming a therapist began when I sought my own therapy in my late 20s. At that time, I felt depressed and “stuck” in my life, and counseling helped me realize I have choices and the power to change my circumstances. This gave me an exciting “new lease on life,” and I decided I would enjoy helping others do the same!
