“Great first session! Jack is mild-mannered and speaks softly, a departure from my past therapists, but he's a good listener and he's insightful. One of his observations was almost verbatim something my best friend said to me months ago. Was kinda sold after that. Plus, his office is drenched in sunshine on a clear day, and the little alert button in his waiting room, a first in my experience, made me feel like all the rich people in movies and television who find that type of thing common, as I'm sure I will months from now. Still, the urge to push and push and push was and will be will be strong. Sorry. I digress. I enjoyed my first session with Jack very much, and I am looking forward to working with him! :)”

Getting to know Jack Irmas

There’s a part of you that knows something isn’t working—but can’t quite name why. You keep showing up: at work, in relationships, in life. But under the surface, something feels off. Maybe it shows up as conflict, disconnection, anxiety, or shame. Maybe you’re successful in many areas but struggle to access the deeper sense of ease, confidence, or intimacy you know is possible. Psychodynamic therapy is about uncovering what’s hidden—beneath your patterns, defenses, and assumptions. The unconscious mind quietly shapes how we love, how we protect ourselves, and how we repeat what hurts. When we bring it into awareness, things begin to shift in powerful and lasting ways. I work especially well with men who are ready to get beneath the surface. Whether you feel cut off from your emotions, stuck in your head, avoidant in relationships, or unsure how to show up as your full self—therapy can help. Together, we’ll explore not just what’s happening, but why—and help you build the kind of internal strength and emotional clarity that changes everything. I hold a Master’s from USC and completed a two-year fellowship in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Wright Institute Los Angeles. My work is depth-oriented, relational, and tailored to help you move from self-protection into real connection. If you’re curious to know what’s actually going on inside—and ready to break free from old patterns—let’s talk.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy might feel daunting, but it doesn't have to be scary. In our first session, we'll focus on getting to know each other and discussing your reasons for seeking therapy. Once we understand your needs, we'll talk about how I can assist you and outline our plan moving forward. You'll find a safe and non-judgmental space here where you can freely express yourself. Expect a compassionate and empathetic approach as we tackle the challenges you're facing. Our sessions will delve into the underlying causes of your struggles. We'll explore past experiences, unconscious motivations, and their impact on your present thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By bringing hidden dynamics into conscious awareness, we can gain insights that foster healing and personal growth. Together, we'll work on understanding the patterns that keep you feeling stuck. I'll provide guidance and support as we navigate this process toward your well-being. Feeling better is within reach, and therapy can help you achieve it.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Initial Consultation We'll begin with an initial consultation to get to know each other. This session is for discussing your reasons for seeking therapy, your goals, and any concerns you have. It's also a chance for you to see if we're a good fit for working together. Comprehensive Assessment In the early stages of therapy, we'll engage in a comprehensive assessment process. This involves exploring your personal history, current challenges, and identifying patterns impacting your well-being. Together, we'll establish clear and meaningful goals to guide our work throughout therapy. Exploring Underlying Dynamics We'll delve into the underlying dynamics contributing to your struggles. This includes examining past experiences, unconscious processes, and relational patterns. By gaining a deeper understanding of these dynamics, we can promote healing and insight. Encouraging Self-Reflection Throughout our sessions, I'll encourage self-reflection, exploration of emotions, and increased self-awareness. Together, we'll identify recurring themes, unresolved conflicts, and unconscious patterns influencing your life. Bringing these into conscious awareness empowers you to make conscious choices. Developing Coping Strategies Therapy also involves developing practical coping strategies to navigate life's challenges. We'll work together to identify and cultivate effective coping skills and resilience-building techniques tailored to your unique needs. These tools will support you in managing stress, enhancing relationships, and improving overall well-being. Feeling Better As therapy progresses, you can expect to experience a sense of relief, growth, and increased well-being. You'll develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your challenges, leading to greater self-confidence and resilience. With continued effort and support, you'll find yourself better equipped to navigate life's ups and downs and enjoy a more fulfilling and satisfying life.
