Jacob Bratcher, LCSW

Psychotherapist
VA
Hi there, I'm Jacob! My name is Jacob Bratcher, and I am a licensed clinical social worker with a Master’s in Social Work from George Mason University. I use a person-centered, holistic approach to therapy, focusing on building self-compassion through analysis of internalized responses. I work with families at every level, including parent coaching, parent-child relationships, and family systems therapy. **My approach** The most common theoretical frameworks I utilize in my practice are attachment theory, acceptance and commitment therapy, family systems theory, and trauma-informed mindfulness. **My focus** I have the most experience working with families who have children with neurodevelopmental disorders. Within my practice, I often help individuals struggling to adjust to becoming parents or coping with a new diagnosis their child has received. I have worked with folks diagnosed with autism, ADHD, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and families with children who have trauma histories or experiences with foster care. **My communication style** I am a forthright speaker who values honesty, transparency, and compassion. I seek to understand what troubles you and honor the tools that have helped you make it this far. I ask that all my patients come to sessions with a learner mindset, as I approach each person with the same mindset. **My journey to mental healthcare** I am driven by a simple idea: leave it better than you found it. I strive to live each day aiming to lessen suffering in the world, even if only by a minuscule amount. I do not always achieve this goal, but I always try. **My goals for you** I work to identify three goals within our intake session and then check in with you on those goals every six weeks to ensure we are still on track. I work with the end in mind and often ask, “How do you know when you will no longer need therapy?”
