Psychotherapist
CA
Hi, my name is Jacqueline Gutierrez, I'm 30 years old and I've been working as a therapist for over 7 years. I attended Cal State Long Beach for my Master's Degree in Counseling, and also my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. I studied in Buenos Aires, Argentina for 4 months at Universidad de Belgrano to complete credits for my Spanish minor during undergrad. I was born, raised, and went to school in Southern California and identify as multi-ethnic, including being half Filipino, a quarter Mexican, the rest German, and Irish. I have a husband, a 4 y/o daughter, and a 7 y/o blue nose pitbull boxer. I enjoy spending time with family, and of course, make time for friends and hobbies when I can. My approach I mainly utilize and find the most effective CBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. My focus I've had a lot of success with individuals having trouble with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, and relational issues. My communication style I try to maintain a balance of listening and being active in my communication during the session. When listening, I take a very active-listening approach; you'll know I'm really listening. When communicating during the session I try to connect and find comprehension in the client, while maintaining unconditional positive regard. My journey to therapy I always said I wanted to be a teacher starting at a very young age. It was the only occupation I knew of that encompassed my desire to guide others to success. I then began to develop a curiosity for the mind, and how it develops starting at a young age. I was curious about why people make the decisions they do. This leads me to decide on Psychology as my Major, and then go on to apply for the Graduate program at CSULB for counseling with an option in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have training in Trauma-Focused CBT, Parent-Child Interactional Therapy, Inter-Personal Therapy, Play Therapy, and Couples Therapy.
