Psychotherapist
FL
Hello, I'm James Mitchell, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a client-centered approach to therapy. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Indiana University. My practice focuses on the LGBTQ+ community, Veterans with adjustment issues, trauma, mood disorders, and anyone seeking to improve coping skills and find solutions to make life more about living and less about just surviving! My approach Client-centered means I act as your guide, helping you talk about your issues using active listening and reflection. I see you as the expert on you, and together we find solutions that fit your life—things to improve coping and minimize stress. My focus I work with people adjusting to the world as it is and learning to cope. Issues of sexuality, depression, anxiety, and relationships—both romantic and platonic—often arise. I view each client as unique with distinct challenges. We tailor your treatment plan to what works for you, making goals achievable, manageable, and sustainable. My communication style My style is honest, direct, self-enhancing, expressive, self-confident, and empathic to your emotions. At times, I use humor and encourage openness as comfortable, reminding clients that growth is lifelong. My journey to therapy Growing up in a town with scarce jobs, I moved states and became a mental health technician at an inpatient hospital. There, I met many medical professionals but was drawn to therapists. Having overcome many issues personally with therapy, I wanted to be a catalyst for change for others. To paraphrase the Peace Corps, it’s the toughest job I’ve ever loved. My clients have taught me more than I have taught them, and I consider it a privilege to do what I do.
