Hi there, I'm James! Looking for a change, you have found the right place. I am a licensed clinical Social Worker who graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work, Master of Social Work, and completed studies for a doctoral degree in human services, with over 20 years of experience working with people with all types of issues. My philosophy is " Everyone has the answers to any problem that troubles them." Together, we can brainstorm your problems, and I'll help you find the solutions needed for change. My approach In my practice, I have experience with cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive processing therapy, motivational interviewing, and dialectical behavioral therapy using a spiritual approach to discover change with one's behaviors. I use many different evidence-based practices with modifications to fit the client's needs. My focus I enjoy working with addictive behaviors, past trauma issues, mood disorders, and grief and loss. My communication style I use active listening with parroting and role playing to help people hear and understand solutions as they discover them, while encouraging new coping mechanisms to acquire and maintain changes in their lives for a more peaceful existence. My journey to mental healthcare I grew up in inner city Atlanta, where I attended school and left for the military (Air Force), where I saw and lived through multiple stressful experiences that brought me back to my roots. I started working with the HIV population during this epidemic and moved on to working with the homeless population, where I finally decided to go back to college, where I was introduced to the social Work field. Since obtaining my degree and license, I have worked with co-occurring addiction and severe mental health, PTSD, and grief and loss with the County, State, and Veteran Administration. I have participated in many research projects on addiction and the legal system, homelessness, and trauma-related issues.
