Getting to know James Tankersley

Hello, I'm James! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a Master's in Psychology from Augusta University. I am passionate about helping clients build a full and meaningful life while accepting and managing the stressors that life inevitably brings. My approach My approach is based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (also known as ACT Therapy). ACT is a very active form of psychotherapy that utilizes acceptance and mindfulness strategies to help you stay focused on the present moment and manage difficult thoughts and emotions. My focus I have a special interest in supporting clients who struggle with chronic pain issues, anxiety, depression, and chronic stress. My communication style I provide a compassionate and non-judgmental space to explore your issues and express your concerns. My journey to therapy I became a therapist to help relieve the suffering of others, based on my own struggle with life's challenges and being “stuck” doing the same things with no long-term results. My goals for you I work collaboratively with clients to clarify their values and set values-based goals. We work together to create action plans that move clients toward living a life that is meaningful and purposeful to THEM! My first session with you Our first session will focus on establishing a warm, kind, open, and authentic relationship. In the words of acclaimed ACT therapist and trainer Russ Harris, “When we give our full attention to another human being with openness, compassion, and curiosity, that is therapeutic in itself.”
