“I am an ongoing patient at the clinic. When I started seeing Jamie I was very disheveled and struggled to juggle all of the responsibilities in my life. I have learned so much about myself and how to continue to grow and nurture my mental health with Jamie's encouragement and guidance. I continue to seek counsel with her because, well, life is constantly bringing more challenges and obstacles for me to manage. I appreciate the ongoing care I receive to enlighten and guide me as the challenges in my life keep coming and my goals continue to change. Having a counselor that has gotten to know me and understands me and truly listens is invaluable to me because she makes me feel important. ”

Getting to know Jamie LaFevers

Hi there! My name is Jamie LaFevers. I'm not as serious as my profile picture but I do take my work with my clients very seriously. I work with clients who primarily deal with anxiety, relationship issues, work/life balance, trauma, and who desire to be better at communicating their wants and needs, learn to say no, prioritize themselves, and feel deeper connections to others. I use humor, education, handouts, learned experiences, and daily examples ot help clients better understand themselves and the world around them. I love helping clients identify realistic goals in therapy and then support them as they work towards those goals. We would work well together if you are curious about therapy, eager to see some changes in your life, open to taking things at a pace that works best for you. I am not a good fit for clients who are looking for someone who will just sit and listen. I am a very engaging therapist. I ask a lot of questions, I want to know about you and how you think and feel. I will give homework assignments if you have the energy for them. I will give you recommendations for TV and books that you might like. I will pause you to ask you to consider your position further and take it to the next level. If I sound like someone you would like to work with please check my availability and schedule what works best. If you do not see a day or time that works for you please contact my office directly and we will see what we can do to help.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am passionate about psychotherapy and working with clients and have abridged my clinical resources to something that fits my personal style and that I feel is the most effective approach for the way I work with clients. I use a Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) and Solution-Focused (SFT) approach to therapy. This means that therapy services with me will focus on a client's thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and behaviors and how they have impacted the client's life (for better or worse) and what changes the client would like to see happen. This approach means that clients are in the driver's seat and that the services are tailored to their specific and unique needs. I believe that clients are the experts in their own life and my role is to assist them in figuring out the best path for them. When working with me clients can expect compassionate and empathetic service. In addition to therapy, I provide homework assignments when appropriate, resources, referrals, and I use humor and humanistic engagement to assist clients in their personal and development. What to Expect In the First Session: The first session is a general assessment session that discusses the client's history, experience with counseling, current situation, and future plans. We talk about the people in the client's life, their pets, their hobbies, and their jobs as well as what brought them into therapy. Specific symptoms are evaluated and reviewed to ensure that proper recommendations are provided and care is received.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I offer talk-therapy support services which mean that in the first few sessions, I am going to have many questions about your past, your goals, your work experiences, and what your best hopes are in therapy. I provide diagnostic assessments and both short-term and ongoing counseling services based on your specific needs. Each session is used as the next step in a journey toward well-being and can be adjusted and changed at anytime as you learn, heal, grow and progress. The clients that I typically work with, and who have expressed the most success working with me, are clients who are resourceful, encouraged by the idea of growth, open to collaboration, and find humor in the dark places. I have the most experience and passion for treating anxiety disorders (including OCD and phobias), depression, career and job/transition needs, relationship issues, and grief. These problems affect most of my clients and I find it extremely rewarding to help them find the best solutions for these issues. The tone and environment of my sessions are empathetic, compassionate, and educational. One of my goals is to teach my clients how to use the skills and resources I have gained over the years daily to encourage their own success and ensure that they can feel empowered to take challenges head-on. Like most people, my life has been impacted in some way by struggle; whether directly or indirectly. Becoming a therapist was a natural way to seek out answers to struggles and a way to help others experiencing similar (or sometimes very different) problems. I am driven by the responses from my clients who tell me that therapy had a positive impact on their lives and that they are somehow, in some way, better because counseling was provided to them. The struggle is still there, but we are not alone.

I've been seeing Virginia for a few years now and am very happy with the care she provides. She brings a great balance of care, open mindedness, and challenge to each of our sessions. I often leave session feeling clear headed and motivated. The practice as a whole is great as well. Their site interface is easy to understand and they are very clear and up front about any updates or changes they have.
