Getting to know Jamie Sullivan

If you are looking for a warm, welcoming place to discuss any issue, thought, or problem you've been dealing with without judgment or closed-mindedness, then I could be a great fit for you! I earned my Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from American International College and hold a license as a mental health counselor in Massachusetts. I have a very friendly, laid-back personality and am always eager to help, often using humor in my general approach; however, I am also very comfortable working through serious and difficult subjects in a calm, supportive way. I'm a very happy, positive person and can always find a silver lining in almost any situation! I've been in the human services field since 2011, and my experience is very diverse. I have extensive experience with substance abuse, depressive and anxiety disorders, PTSD, and ADHD, gained through inpatient, outpatient, and community-based treatment. Additionally, I have worked with domestic violence cases, the Department of Children and Families (DCF), foster care regulations, and the Massachusetts legal system. My therapeutic approach draws from several types of therapy, primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), but I am also able to utilize different approaches and techniques as needed. I am very open and welcoming to feedback, as well as flexible, so I always encourage people to share what they want and need while we're working together, allowing me to help or adjust accordingly. I've also worked with clients of all ages from diverse ethnicities, religions, and backgrounds. Once we build a positive relationship with open and honest communication, I am confident I can help and support you in reaching your goals! A promise to you, as my client: I will always work at your pace, so you'll never feel rushed, and we'll always focus on whatever issue you feel is most important or urgent. Remember, you know yourself better than anyone else ever could, so I will never assume that I know what's best.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Typically, the first session will begin with me sharing a little bit about myself and my experience so that you understand some of the things I am proficient in. The first few sessions are almost always focused on getting to know you and gathering information about your past and present, and then we will try to identify some goals that you would like to focus on moving forward, which we will approach through talk therapy and exploring strategies to help. Long term, most people choose to cut down to less than weekly sessions as they make more progress and are able to come up with strategies on their own!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Jamie is attentive and incredibly easy-going. It’s nerve wrecking to talk about your feelings and experiences;however, she is very personable and patient throughout the entire session.

Dr Sullivan was very warm & welcoming. I had a tough time opening up to another therapist because of their approach but not with Jamie! She was an amazing listener & made me feel heard & seen. It has only been my 1st session & I already opened up so much. I am excited for the future of healing!
