Getting to know Janel Medina

I'm Janel Medina, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master's in Social Work from Washington University, St. Louis. I have had the opportunity to work in mental health for over 20 years. As a virtual clinician based in San Diego, CA, I work with clients throughout California. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive space to help you take steps toward a better life. I want to meet you where you are. Even if you're not ready to make a major change, I'm here to help you lay everything out without fear of judgment. You know yourself best. While friends and family often have your best interests at heart, they may guide you toward what's best for them-not necessarily what's best for you. I've worked with clients of all ages but prefer to work with adults contemplating change. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help manage symptoms of anxiety and depression. Often, it's our internal dialogue about ourselves that causes the most trouble. When that dialogue becomes more accurate and believable, it's easier to accept or challenge. I want to follow your lead but also be willing to nudge or push you-once we've built rapport-out of your comfort zone if needed. If I can help bring a different perspective to your situation, I'm doing my job. It's not about always agreeing with me; I want to offer a wider lens to help you see your challenges with more insight. I have the best career in the world. It has given me authentic experiences with people I might never have connected with otherwise. Joining someone's journey toward a better life is one of the most rewarding gifts I could ever have.
