Getting to know Janet Couet

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in counseling, health education, and addictive behaviors specializing in eating disorders in 1986. I completed my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1997. I have been licensed in the state of Florida since March 2003. With over 30 years of mental health experience, I have worked with a wide range of populations, including hospice, autism, employee assistance counseling, crisis intervention, sexual and physical abuse, eating disorders, elder care, child welfare, and foster care. I assess children in the foster system to provide clinical recommendations to the legal system regarding their long-term placement. Additionally, I serve as a critical incident/stress management responder, addressing various crises on behalf of corporations in distress. My corporate background includes management, employee relations, contract negotiation, insurance, and the development of hospice, autism, and Medicare support programs. I have extensive experience in employee relations, including interviewing and hiring, employee performance, and team building. Since March 2021, I have held a contract with TNC, conducting sessions almost monthly that focus on tools and resources for work-life balance and well-being. On a personal note, my husband is my best friend, and we share many interests. I enjoy walking and am a former tennis player. We also like to travel and spend time with my family.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is non-judgmental and very compassionate. I believe you dictate what you feel you will get best out of therapy. It is important to set realistic goals. I am flexible, caring, and accepting. I have both a business and mental health background. I have been licensed for 20 years.
