Hi there, I'm Janice!
My name is Janice Huston, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in California. I earned my Master's in Counseling from Gonzaga University and have been practicing for the past 9 years. I specialize in working with clients who experience anxiety, depression, relationship issues such as codependency, as well as those interested in self-discovery.
My approach
My theoretical orientation is grounded in attachment theory, family systems theory, and psychodynamic theory. In my work, a person's attachment style, the role they played in their family, and childhood experiences inform present-day mental health symptoms. I was recently trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which I use as a tool in therapy to help clients process traumatic experiences, decrease the emotional charge associated with them, and ultimately reduce mental health symptoms. I am innately Person-Centered, and at the core of my practice is prioritizing trust in the relationship before diving into the healing work.
My focus
I work with adults experiencing various types of anxiety, depression, relationship issues such as codependency, those seeking better self-understanding, navigating life transitions, or feeling stuck due to dissatisfaction with their career or life choices. Spirituality and spiritual exploration are also areas I focus on, but only if the client wishes to include that in their therapy experience.
My communication style
I am friendly and match your energy. I normalize humanness and create an environment that disarms and allows people to be themselves. I am a question-asker and empathetic, so between the two, there is a balance of self-exploration and feeling/somatic experiencing. I also love finding creative solutions to problems related to your mental health.
