Psychotherapist
CA
Greetings! My name is Jason Bernardo, LMFT #142300, and I would like to support you on your journey. It is possible for you to win at life alone, but I do not think it was meant to be that way. If you are ready to work through the naysayers—both those around you and those within you—maybe I can help play a part in this period of your life. My approach My approach is foremost relational. I am intentional in making and building connections with my clients. I listen more than I talk, but when I do, I mean it with compassion. My theoretical orientation is malleable to complement the uniqueness of each person I serve. Jack of all trades, master of none: it includes person-centered as its core and blends elements from existential, CBT, experiential, object relations, gestalt, and sensorimotor, with a dash of experiential art. My focus The types of clients I work with tend to have challenges with anxiety, depression, anger, trauma, relational conflicts, and life transitional changes. Helping a person use the keys they have to free themselves from the invisible cage preventing them from living life—that is part of my work. I support those willing to put in the work. My communication style My colleagues have described my communication as "chill" and easy to talk to. Non-direct mostly, but direct when it counts. My style is compassionate, supportive, companion-like, and uplifting. My journey to mental healthcare Becoming a therapist was a journey of self-discovery that continues to evolve. It was an accumulation of wisdom and hints from people I interacted with and the world around me that I carefully listened to, helping me understand who I am. It started with an analytical mind observing as a drug researcher finding cures to diseases, then looking at optimum nutrition as a food scientist. I earned my Master’s in Counseling from California State University, Bakersfield, which further shaped my path into mental healthcare.
