Psychotherapist
745 South Street, Ste. 3-C, Green Lake, WI
My path to being a psychotherapist wasn't a straight line. Over more than 30 years, I've worked in military service, corrections, correctional forensics, and crisis intervention. Along the way, I've sat with people in some of the most difficult circumstances human beings face, at home and abroad, in settings that don't leave much room for anything but honesty. That history shapes how I work. While I truly value what the literature brings to this work, I draw just as heavily, maybe more so in some cases, on lived experience alongside people who've carried some of the hardest things. I view life and psychotherapy through a humanistic lens, which means I start with you as a person, not a diagnosis. Trauma sits at the center of much of my work. I work with first responders, veterans, and people who've lived through awful and extraordinary things. But people come to me for many reasons: anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, substance use, life transitions, and more. Whatever brings you here, I'll be straight with you about whether I can help, and if I'm not the right fit, I'll say so and help you find someone who is. My primary approach is grounded in neurosomatic psychotherapy, which means we're working with the whole person, including the body, brain, and nervous system, not just talking about it. But every client is different, and your treatment plan will be tailored to your specific strengths, needs, and goals, drawing on a range of evidence-based approaches.

Getting to know Jason Fairweather

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work at your pace, whatever brought you to therapy. If you're dealing with a difficult past experience, that doesn't mean you have to relive every detail before things can improve. If you're working through anxiety, depression, a life transition, or substance use, we'll figure out together what approach actually fits your situation, rather than forcing you into a single method. I bring a direct, grounded style to sessions. I've spent years in high-stress environments, from military service to correctional and forensic settings, and that experience taught me the value of honesty over false reassurance. You can expect me to be straightforward with you, while also being patient and attentive to what you're carrying. My background covers a wide range: trauma, substance use, anxiety, depression, and the challenges that come with legal or justice system involvement. I don't approach any of these as more or less legitimate reasons to be in therapy. My focus is on where you want to go from here, not on categorizing you. If you're new to therapy or unsure what to expect, that's completely normal. We'll talk through what makes sense for you before diving into anything difficult, and we'll keep adjusting as we go.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session focuses on getting to know you: your history, current concerns, and what has or has not worked for you in the past. I want to understand the full picture, including your goals, your daily life, and what "better" would actually look like for you. From there, we build a plan together based on what you need. That might include structured, modality-specific work such as EMDR, Brainspotting, or Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma-related concerns. It might involve a more traditional talk therapy approach for anxiety, depression, life transitions, or relationship difficulties. For substance use concerns, we look at patterns, triggers, and the underlying factors that keep those patterns in place, alongside practical strategies for change. I explain any approach before we use it, so you always understand what we're doing and why. Early sessions often include some stabilization work: building coping tools and a sense of steadiness before tackling harder material. How much time we spend here depends entirely on what you're working through and how you're doing day to day. As therapy progresses, sessions become more tailored to your specific goals, whether that means processing a difficult experience, addressing habits or behaviors you want to change, or working through ongoing stressors. I check in regularly on how things are going and adjust the plan as needed. Therapy isn't one-size-fits-all, and what's useful in month one may look different by month three. I also work with justice-involved individuals and understand the particular pressures that come with navigating legal systems alongside personal struggles. Whatever brought you to therapy, my aim is to meet you where you are and help you move toward where you want to be.

Don’t see your insurance?

It’s common for mental health providers to be out-of-network. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage, so you may get partially reimbursed. Learn more

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

I am in-network with most major insurance carriers in Wisconsin, and I continue to expand my panel as needed to meet client demand. If you don't see your specific plan listed, please reach out directly, as I may already be credentialed with your carrier or in the process of becoming so. For clients using in-network insurance, I bill your carrier directly following each session, and you're responsible for any applicable copay, coinsurance, or deductible amount based on your plan's benefits. For clients paying out of pocket or using plans I'm not paneled with, payment is due at the time of service, and I can provide a superbill (an itemized receipt) that you may submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement. I believe access to mental health care should be broadly available, not limited to those who can pay full price out of pocket. For this reason, I offer a sliding fee scale for clients who might otherwise face financial barriers to starting or continuing care. If cost is a concern, let's talk about it directly. I'd rather find a workable arrangement than have finances be the reason someone doesn't get support. If you have any questions about your specific coverage, how charges will work, or the sliding scale before your first appointment, feel free to reach out and we can sort out the details together.
