Jay Mosoff, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
My name is Jay Mosoff, and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master’s in Counseling from Ryokan College. I take an individualized approach to therapy by choosing interventions best suited to my clients and their goals. I believe in unconditional positive regard and focus on anxiety, which often underlies depression and many other challenges. I also love working with couples and families! My approach I primarily use client-centered modalities that focus on present-day issues. When past experiences cause problems, it’s because they affect how you think and behave now. Change happens when we change how we are in the present moment. Therefore, I use ACT, Gestalt, and CBT. To assist parents with their children, I employ Positive Parenting or MAP. I also provide couples counseling and family therapy. My focus I enjoy working with adults motivated to make positive changes. This includes a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, dissatisfaction with major life choices, communication problems, low self-esteem, and low self-confidence. I also deeply enjoy my work with couples and families. My communication style I seek to understand my clients by offering unconditional positive regard. I listen carefully, reflect on what I hear, and validate feelings. I ask questions to clarify and have been told I have a lot of patience—I agree! I’m calm and relaxed, and our sessions are a collaboration. I believe we all do the best we can and communicate that attitude in many ways. Above all, I work to create an environment where clients feel safe. My journey to mental healthcare At 18, I realized I didn’t know how I felt and often felt numb. I started attending a group led by a Gestalt therapist, and I loved it. In less than a year, I was feeling my feelings again! On the day I met with my therapist to terminate, I told him I wanted to become a therapist myself.
