I give you a lot of credit for reaching out for help with issues that are of concern to you, for example, relationships and the need for communication skill-building, early childhood wounds, alcohol, drugs, and eating concerns, low self-esteem, and the desire to have a more fulfilling life. My approach My approach is kind and direct while building a therapeutic relationship that is collaborative and supportive. I work to help you gain insight into where your problems originated by exploring early life experiences and relationships. I use experiential exercises when helpful. My focus I specialize in working with couples who want to stay together and don't know how, feeling their only option is to separate or divorce. We work together to discover the underlying reasons for difficulties in communication, while changing the relationship to be on a more fulfilling course for each partner. I also have long-term expertise in treating addictions, for example, alcohol, drugs, and eating disorders. I currently carry out the work of John Bradshaw, who was a specialist in treating co-dependency and early childhood wounds. My communication style My style of therapy is warm, supportive, and collaborative with direct feedback as needed. I work to build a therapeutic relationship where trust develops and insight creates self-understanding and change, then becomes a natural part of the healing process. My journey to mental healthcare As a young adult, my first job was as a mental health aid in a psychiatric hospital in New Jersey. This experience with patients willing to look at themselves and their inner lives was life-changing to me. Coming from a family system of secrets where no one "aired their dirty laundry," the openness was refreshing and exhilarating. From there, I entered Graduate School at San Francisco State University to obtain my Marriage and Family License.
