Getting to know Jeannette Douglas

Thank you for taking this brave step in improving your mental health and well-being. I work with clients to address a wide range of challenges including addiction, anxiety, depression, and relationship problems. I work with individuals, couples, and adolescents on various other issues we face in our daily lives. One of the most difficult steps is asking for help, which takes immense courage and mindfulness. I believe that each person is an expert on their own life, and I hope that my work with you will assist you in finding answers to the problems you encounter and help you develop healthy coping skills that you can use throughout your entire life. My approach is humanistic, person-centered, and strength-based counseling. The treatment plan will be tailored to meet your specific needs. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support you effectively. I look forward to assisting you in achieving your goals by providing a safe and empathetic space for us to work together. PLEASE NOTE: WE ACCEPT STRAIGHT MEDICARE INSURANCE. WE DO NOT ACCEPT MEDICAID INSURANCE-BASED PLANS. APPOINTMENT POLICY: Please complete ALL of your intake forms prior to your first session. You will receive an email from Bloom Practice with your intake paperwork.

What should a new client know about working with you?

A new client should know that our relationship is a collaborative process and it’s important to maintain strict confidentiality while we work on finding solutions together. My role is also to help the client develop coping mechanisms and achieve their goals. I listen attentively and provide a judgement-free zone and a supportive environment with a safe space to explore thoughts and feelings so that clients feel at ease to be open and honest with me.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As a therapist, I begin by building a good rapport and a trusting relationship with the client while I conduct an initial assessment to understand their presenting problems and collaboratively work on the treatment goals that are important to them. The following step is to implement appropriate therapeutic interventions based on the client's needs, and continue to regularly monitor their progress, which will help them to eventually work towards successful self-management.
